General control

The prime objective of Ostend-Bruges Airport is to guarantee the highest level of safety for its passengers. We do the utmost to provide all passengers a safe environment while minimizing the inconvenience that this may cause. We would like to fully inform you about the security procedure and thus ensure that you have a positive experience when you pass through the airport. We hope to have your full cooperation for the additional security control.

All passengers need to go through several security checks. These checks are primarily put in place to guarantee your safety. A check is made on the carriage of hazardous substances and items that could pose a danger to the passengers, crew and/or the safety of the aircraft. The security checks take place in the form of a manual check and/or using detection equipment on both your hand luggage and your hold luggage.(X-ray systems) We would like to thank all passengers for the cooperation during these checks which may cause possible inconveniences.

Should the alarm of the archway metal detector sound, a security officer will search you to find out which item set off the alarm. You must comply with the instructions given by the security officer at all times.

Attention: always follow the instructions given by the security staff. The security staff can always refuse an item, even if this is not explicitly mentioned on the list of prohibited items.

Additional security checks

In order to guarantee our passengers a safe environment; Ostend-Bruges Airport has implemented increased control standards like most other European Airports. These additional measures have been introduced in and around the airport building; please take into account that there is only one entrance and one exit to the airport terminal.

Ticket and/or Identity Card Check

Once you have passed through the security check, the Federal Police will check your Identity Card (if you are travelling to a non-Schengen Country). The Schengen Countries are: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. Once through, you may wait in the departure lounge. A boarding gate staff member will check your airline ticket and identity card shortly before you board the aircraft.
